Privacy Policy

Short version: LinguaVox does not collect, store, or sell your personal data. Your voice recordings go directly to OpenAI's API and are never stored by LinguaVox.

1. What LinguaVox Does

LinguaVox is a Chrome browser extension that captures your voice through your microphone, sends the audio to OpenAI's Whisper API for transcription, optionally translates or enhances the text, and inserts the result into the active text field on any webpage.

2. Data We Do NOT Collect

LinguaVox does not:

Store your voice recordings on any server
Track which websites you visit
Collect browsing history or behavior
Share any data with third parties beyond what is required for the service to function
Use analytics or tracking SDKs

3. Data That Leaves Your Device

The following data is transmitted when you use LinguaVox:

Audio recordings — sent directly to OpenAI's Whisper API for transcription. OpenAI's privacy policy applies: openai.com/privacy
Text for translation/enhancement — sent to your configured AI provider (OpenAI, Google Gemini, or Anthropic). The respective provider's privacy policy applies.
Google account information — your Google email and name are used for authentication only. We store your Google ID and email in our Cloudflare KV database solely to manage your account access. This data is not shared with third parties.

4. Authentication & Account Data

If you sign in with Google, we store the following in our Cloudflare infrastructure:

Google account ID (anonymous identifier)
Email address
Account creation date
Account active status

This data is used exclusively to authenticate you and provide access to the OpenAI API key. It is never sold or shared with third parties.

5. Local Storage

LinguaVox stores the following data locally in your browser using chrome.storage.local:

Your extension settings (language preferences, mode selection, hotkey configuration)
Your authentication JWT token
Recent transcription history (stored locally only, never uploaded)

This data stays on your device and is never transmitted to LinguaVox servers.

6. Microphone Access

LinguaVox requests microphone permission solely to record your voice when you activate the extension. The microphone is only active while you hold the activation hotkey. Audio is processed and discarded immediately after transcription — it is never saved to disk or uploaded to LinguaVox servers.

7. Third-Party Services

LinguaVox integrates with the following third-party services. Their respective privacy policies apply to data processed by their systems:

OpenAI — speech transcription and AI text enhancement — openai.com/privacy
Google — OAuth authentication — policies.google.com/privacy
Cloudflare — backend infrastructure and CDN — cloudflare.com/privacypolicy

8. Data Retention

Account data stored in our Cloudflare KV database is retained as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account data at any time by contacting us.

9. Children's Privacy

LinguaVox is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of LinguaVox after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
